چکیده

A young cat clinically displaying marked ascites had multiple nodule hyperplasia in the liver. One of the nodules sampled at exploratory laparotomy was studied histopathologically. The nodule consisted mainly of hyperplastic hepatocytes with a central stellate scarlike connective tissue. The connective tissue had thick-walled blood vessels and radiating bands of fibrous connective tissue extending peripherally, dividing the nodule into pseudolobules. The lesions resembled focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) in man. Serial section revealed a single large artery with the splitting of the internal elastic lamina running into the central connective tissue and branching to connect with the main vessels. The arterial branchings formed a spider-like structure. From these findings, it was suggested that the nodule had developed from a hepatic response to pre-existing vascular anomalies as had been reported in human FNH.

Focal nodular hyperplasia of the liver: a rational approach to treatment.

Focal nodular hyperplasia of the liver in a 3 year old child has been successfully treated by ligation of the hepatic artery branches supplying the lesion. The prominence of the abnormal vasculature in the lesion and its possible aetiological involvement is stressed. Because of the risks of partial hepatectomy, hepatic artery ligation is suggested as the treatment of choice for focal nodular hy...

Focal nodular hyperplasia of the liver with angioma-like features in the center.

A 73-year-old woman was incidentally found to have a hypervascular nodule in the liver (S5) with imaging. She was subsequently followed under a diagnosis of suspected hepatic hemangioma because of continued enhancement in portal venous phase CT scan (Fig. 1A). Liver function test and tumor marker were within normal limits. Both HBs antigen and HCV antibody were negative. She had no history of t...

Nonclassical focal nodular hyperplasia of the liver in a chronic alcoholic: a diagnostic dilemma on FNAC.

In a 49 year old male, a chronic alcoholic with hepatomegaly, a subcapsular nodular lesion was detected in the right lobe of the liver. On fine needle aspiration cytology, hepatocellular carcinoma was considered. Excision of the lesion showed features of nonclassical focal nodular hyperplasia with large cell dysplasia that caused the diagnostic dilemma on cytology.
